The Washington Huskies and Texas Longhorns square off in the second game of the pair of NCAA Football Playoff semifinals at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 1st.

 

Texas won the Big 12 Conference championship and is making its first trip to the NCAA Football Playoff. After defeating Oklahoma State 49-21, the Longhorns improved to 12-1 (8-1), marking their initial season with ten or more wins since 2018. They then jumped above Florida State and Georgia in the CFP rankings, moving up to No. 3 below Washington and Michigan. In the AP poll, they are rated #3 as well. Texas had a two-game winning streak at the close of the season. The last time the Longhorns played, they defeated Baylor 38-27. Bijan Robinson, a running back, scored a pair of touchdowns and gained 170 yards from 29 carries. After 35.7 points scored per game, the Texas Longhorns were rated 20th in the nation for NCAA football. This season, Texas’s offense was headed by Bijan Robinson. This season, Robinson has accumulated 1,580 rushing yards as well as 18 rushing scores. Quinn Ewers, the quarterback, has passed for 1.808 yards thus far this year. Ewers has six picks against just 14 passing touchdowns.

 

 

During the Pac-12 Championship Game, Washington defeated Oregon 34-31 to maintain its hopes of having a perfect season. With the win, the Huskies are now 13-0 (9-0), one of just four FBS teams still undefeated (along with Michigan, Florida State, and Liberty). As a consequence, the Huskies, who were making their first postseason participation since the 2016–17 Fiesta Bowl, rose to the #2 spot in the CFP rankings. In their most recent victory versus Washington State, Washington scored 51 points. In the victory, quarterback Michael Penix passed for 485 yards and three touchdowns. Penix has seven interceptions and 29 passing touchdowns so far this season. This season, Penix additionally scored four touchdowns via rushes. Washington scores 40.8 points per contest on average, which ranks fourth in the nation. 376 throwing yards are averaged by the Huskies per contest. This season, 2 wide receivers for Washington have accumulated more than 1,000 receiving yards.
