Monday’s CFP Semifinal NCAA football game between the Michigan Wolverines and the Alabama Crimson Tide will take place at the Rose Bowl. Alabama has won 11 straight games and is at 12-1 overall. The previous time the Tide played, they defeated Georgia by 3 points. Michigan is currently unbeaten after 13 games and is coming off a convincing victory against Iowa to start December.
From the Michigan perspective, there aren’t many grievances to voice this year. The Wolverines have won 13 games without a loss and defeated 3 ranked schools in their previous 4 matches: Penn State, Ohio State, and Iowa. This season, Michigan has averaged a respectable 36.7 points per match, with the ground assault accounting for 35 touchdowns and 161.8 yards per contest. When Michigan faced Iowa during the Big Ten championship game, they had little opposition. After three quarters, the Wolverines led 20-0 and went on to win 26-0 without allowing a point. Blake Corum scored most of the points with 52 rush yards and a pair of touchdowns, while JJ McCarthy passed for 147 yards. With 9 catches, Cornelius Johnson contributed 64 yards.
This year, the Tide’s sole defeat on the schedule is a 34-24 setback to Texas back on September 9th. Since then, Alabama has won 11 consecutive games, largely due to their 34.9-point-per-game average. With 30 running touchdowns this year in addition to 23 passing touchdowns as well as 6 interceptions through the air, the Tide’s offense has been very balanced. Alabama led Georgia, their most recent opponent for the SEC title, 20–10 heading into the final quarter. Even though they were forced to fight a little after that, the Tide won 27–24. While Roydell Williams amassed 64 rushing yards alongside a touchdown on 16 runs, Jalen Milroe recorded 192 throw yards and a pair of touchdowns.
