Alabama Analysis: Coming from a massive win
With a squad that included a top-five choice in the NBA Draft, the Alabama Crimson Tide won more than thirty games in the previous season. However, after the Tide defeated the top-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels 89-87 on Thursday evening to make the Elite Eight for just the second time in school history, that squad was unable to accomplish what this year’s team has done. In order to restock their squad, the Tide made roster updates throughout the offseason by adding a number of players via the transfer portal. Grant Nelson, a forward who joined the team recently, had a fantastic performance on Thursday to aid the Crimson Tide’s progress. With only 38 seconds left, Nelson made a game-winning three-point shot. Shortly after, he foiled UNC’s attempt to get back in front.
Clemson Analysis: Currently on a great run
For the most part of this season, the Clemson Tigers disappointed both their supporters and themselves. The Tigers, who were expected to win the ACC, far too frequently let themselves down, as evidenced by their 21-point defeat to the Boston College Eagles during the ACC Tournament. But the Tigers are now a different team than when they were invited to the NCAA Tournament. They have won three straight games, most recently defeating second-seeded Arizona 77-72 on Thursday night. The Tigers led almost exactly from start to finish and advanced to the Elite Eight for only the second time in the program’s history behind the scoring of Chase Hunter (18 points) and PJ Hall (17 points).
