The Big 12 Championship Game takes place on December 2nd between the Texas Longhorns (11-2) and Oklahoma State Cowboys (9-3) at the AT&T Stadium.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys finished the regular season with a 9-3 record and a 40-34 victory over BYU, which guaranteed them a spot in the Big 12 championship game. This season, running back Ollie Gordon II is running for 1,580 yards and 20 touchdowns while quarterback Alan Bowman has passed for 2,808 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions on 59.9% of passes. In contrast to BYU, Oklahoma State’s offense ran for five touchdowns while failing to throw for a touchdown. They averaged 4.4 yards per rush attempt and 321 total passing yards, finishing with 503 total yards. Oklahoma State was 2-2 after 4 matches and fell to South Alabama 26 points at home. For Mike Gundy’s team, things appeared to be going completely out of control, but the Pokes turned things around and won 9 games for the second time in the previous six years.
With their latest victory, a 57-7 thumping of Texas Tech, the Texas Longhorns concluded the season with an 11-1 record. It was their sixth consecutive victory. With a 69.8% completion percentage, quarterback Quinn Ewers has thrown for 2,709 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions while running back Jonathan Brooks leads the team with 1,139 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Although Ewers hasn’t played well since coming back, he is a steady presence in the huddle and is adept at carrying out Steve Sarkisian’s offense. Additionally, despite the season-ending injury to star running back Jonathan Brooks, the Longhorns ran for 302 yards and three touchdowns in their most recent game against Texas Tech. Texas’s offensive line is capable of blocking for all of these players, and the team has a wealth of talent in the backfield. Thus, it’s possible that Brooks won’t be missed all that much in the future.
