On Saturday, November 11th, at the Alamodome, the UTSA Roadrunners will play the Rice Owls in an AAC matchup against a team that they are all too familiar with.
The Roadrunners had an unsuccessful beginning to the campaign standing at 1-3, before going on a winning stretch that saw them finish 5-3 after 8 matches. During that period, UTSA’s offense had a well balanced lineup with 13 run touchdowns plus 18 passing touchdowns, in addition to 9 interceptions. With 31 touchdowns in total, the Roadrunners scored 30.5 points per match on average. The Roadrunners, paired up versus North Texas, took an early lead at the half, 27-13, and managed to hang on to secure a 37-29 triumph. Kevorian Barnes put in the most of the labor via 129 rush yards with a pair of touchdowns, while Frank Harris finished with 134 yards on 13 of 25 passing during the victory. In addition, Joshua Cephus contributed 6 receptions for a respectable 69 yards.
Despite being 4-4 in the initial 8 matches of the season, Rice’s team proved .500, with good scoring performances. During that span, the Owls averaged 33.3 points per contest and scored 36 touchdowns in all. While the rush produced 91.1 yards per game and 16 touchdowns plus an average of 3.3 yards per rush, the passing game contributed to 303.5 yards per match and 20 touchdowns as well as 6 interceptions. Rice lost their game against SMU on Saturday, falling short of their goal in the end with a 36-31 score after trailing 24-21 at halftime. JT Daniels passed for 81 yards with a pair of touchdowns including an interception of his own, while Chase Jenkins finished with 85 yards and an interception. With 77 yards and a touchdown, Dean Connors became the squad’s leading rusher.
