On December 2 the Boise State Broncos (7-5) take on the UNLV Rebels (9-3) in the MWC Championship Game at Allegiant Stadium.
Boise State defeated Air Force on Friday to secure their most recent championship appearance. Into the half, the Broncos led 17–6, and they would go on to win 27–19. Quarterback Taylen Green scored a rush touchdown and completed the pass for 228 yards, 1 touchdown, and two picks. With 207.7 rushing yards each game through the first half of the season, the Boise State Broncos are 11th in the nation. This is a result of their outstanding football running performance. By the time the Broncos take the field, they will have participated in 6 of the previous 7 championship games. This is the Broncos’ second straight trip to the Mountain West championship game. This one wasn’t easy, though; following an exciting conference weekend of games, a computer was used to determine the championship slots.
UNLV was outscored 17–7 in the 1st quarter of their game against the Spartans on Saturday, and they were down 30–17 heading into the fourth quarter. Despite their best efforts, the Rebels were defeated 37–31. The majority of the offensive work was done by running back Jai’Den Thomas, who ran 10 times for 48 yards and three scores. Quarterback Jayden Maiava passed for 229 yards and a touchdown while receiver Ricky White led the receiving group with five grabs for 111 yards. Having 187.8 rushing yards per game, the UNLV Rebels are currently ranked 28th in college football and they have also run the football at a high level all season. Vincent Davis Jr., a senior running back, has set the standard with 118 carries for 667 yards and 5 touchdowns on the ground. But while they are strong running the ball they have a problem defending the run as they rank 89th in college football in rushing defense, allowing 152.6 yards per carry.
