Game Preview

On December 28, the Arizona Wildcats (9-3) and Oklahoma Sooners (10-2) will play in the Alamo Bowl at Alamodome.

Michael Wiley scored 3 touchdowns, Noah Fifita set a school record with 527 yards and 5 touchdowns through the air, and No. 16 Arizona easily defeated Arizona State 59-23 in their last game to bring an end to the Territorial Cup rivalry in the Pac-12. Arizona State crushed the Wildcats 2 years ago with a score of 70-7. The injury-plagued Sun Devils (3-9, 2-7) were met with no mercy by the Wildcats, who amassed 619 yards of offense. On 11 catches, Tetairoa McMillan recorded a Territorial Cup record 266 yards and a receiving touchdown, while Jacob Cowing totaled 157 yards on 9 catches. In the game, Fifita completed 30 of 41 passes to surpass Anu Solomon’s school milestone of 520 yards passing. Each of the four touchdowns was set up by a passing play to McMillan or Cowing of at least fifteen yards. Before halftime, Fifita had amassed the most passing yards of any Arizona quarterback in Territorial Cup history, reaching 357 yards on a 22-yard touchdown pass to Wiley.

Oklahoma will only be playing in the Alamo Bowl for the second time. The Sooners’ lone other game was versus Oregon in 2021. With rookie quarterback Caleb Williams leading the offense and tossing 3 touchdown passes, the Sooners prevailed 47–32 in that contest. Dillon Gabriel, the standout quarterback for Oklahoma, transferred to Oregon and will not participate in the Alamo Bowl. This season, the redshirt senior had the fourth-highest grade (91.8) among all quarterbacks in the nation. Along with center Andrew Raym and right tackle Tyler Guyton declaring for the NFL draft, left guard Cayden Green entered the transfer portal, meaning the Sooners will be missing 3 of their top offensive linemen. Both backup running back Tawee Walker and starting safety Key Lawrence have accessed the transfer portal and will not be participating in the game.
