On November 24, Oklahoma Sooners (9-2) and TCU Horned Frogs (5-6) play college football in Week 13 at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
The main narrative going into this game will center on Dillon Gabriel, the outstanding quarterback for Oklahoma. Due to an upper-body injury, Gabriel left Oklahoma’s close 31–24 victory over BYU early. Backup quarterback Jackson Arnold didn’t fire up the scoreboard, but he showed off his running skills and made some huge throws to help the Sooners win big. Arnold will have to start his career’s first game if Gabriel cannot manage to turn things around regarding his injury in 6 days. In order to be in the running for a New Year’s Six bowl slot and to maintain their chances of playing in the Big 12 championship game, the Sooners must win. Their attack, which ranks eighth in total yards per game (492.9) and eleventh in passing (314.7), is a formidable force to be reckoned with.
The Horned Frogs have had a difficult season, but they just defeated Baylor 42–17 in week 12 thanks to a strong second half performance. Josh Hoover, the backup quarterback, had the best performance of his career in that game, completing 24 out of 29 ball passes for 412 yards and 2 throwing touchdowns. The starting tight end against Baylor, Jared Wiley was his preferred target; he had seven receptions for 178 yards and 2 scores. Over the last 7 matches, TCU’s defense generated three more turnovers, with two of those coming in the decisive victory over BYU. Unlike early in the season, this group is having a hard time producing the big plays. TCU’s offense, which averages 309.3 yards per game and is rated 13th in passing yards every game, is a major asset, but the running game hasn’t been all that good, ranking 75th with 152.5 rushing yards each game.
