Game Preview

On Sunday afternoon during Week 7, the Buffalo Bills will travel to face the struggling New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. Two clubs in the AFC East face off, but they are headed in different paths.

To improve to 4-2, Buffalo defeated the New York Giants on the road in Week 6. In the race for the division, the 5-1 Miami Dolphins are trailing the defending AFC East champion Buffalo Bills.

The Buffalo Bills have enjoyed a strong start this season and appear likely to finish in the top-10 of the NFL regular season standings. Unfortunately, however, their last outing against the Giants proved challenging; therefore they must overcome several significant problems if they want to advance further in this matchup and ultimately advance to round two of playoff play.

Josh Allen, the team’s quarterback, was labeled as limited during Wednesday’s walk-through due to a right shoulder injury sustained during the victory on Sunday night football. X-rays showed “normal,” but Buffalo coach Sean McDermott said Allen is “day-to-day.” In the victory against the Giants, Allen completed 19 of 30 passes for 169 yards, a pair of touchdowns, along with an interception. Having a 71.7 completion percentage, he tops the entire NFL.

With 3 straight losses, the Patriots are off to their weakest start since 1995—a 1-5 record. In the match last Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders that did offer some cause for hope, New England fell on the road.

For the very first time since the Miami Dolphins defeat in Week 2, quarterback Mac Jones completed a minimum of 70% of his throws in a game. Additionally, the Patriots ended a run of 12 straight quarters without scoring an offensive touchdown.

Prior to it, New England endured the biggest setbacks of Coach Bill Belichick’s coaching career, losing to the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints by combined scores of 72-3. The Bills represent a significant challenge for the six-time Super Bowl champion coach.
