NFL Game of the Year: Bengals vs 49ers Week 8 Early Preview

NFL Game of the Year: Bengals vs 49ers Week 8 Early Preview

August 31, 2023

Levi’s Stadium will see NFL action on week 8 of the season when the San Francisco 49ers face the Cincinnati Bengals. This game will take place on October 29th.

Since Kyle Shanahan took over as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, the team has been anything from average. Depending upon Jimmy Garoppolo’s wellness, they’ve been at different sides of the spectrum, dropping 10 or more matches or winning just as many. Last year the 49ers performed admirably. Week 9’s bye week made them appear unstoppable. In the second half of the year, they not only won contests, but also dominated them as well. But in typical Shanahan form, each of their quarterbacks suffered critical injuries, and Josh Johnson was forced to lead the charge versus Philadelphia.

If the man is healthy, Brock Purdy is going to begin. That does not imply that he is without conflict. At the conclusion of the previous season, Purdy had a fantastic run and was an amazing tale. Mr. Insignificant in the previous year’s draft, he started all 5 of the 49ers’ regular-season games after Jimmy Garoppolo went hurt. Additionally, the 49ers claimed Purdy’s initial 2 playoff games. He wasn’t merely a bystander either; Purdy excelled in those contests. A particularly intriguing aspect of their campaign is their defense. DeMeco Ryans’ absence might have a significant impact on defense. But it’s not like Wilks isn’t an excellent defensive coordinator in and of himself. Since there are plenty of veterans on the squad and it is crucial to maintain the 49ers defense’s structural consistency, he is additionally undergoing a crash course in it.

Over the last 2 NFL campaigns, the Cincinnati Bengals have participated in a Super Bowl and 2 AFC Championship Games, but they’ve yet to win their first-ever Lombardi Trophy. Is the squad for Cincinnati still one of the strongest within the conference, or might the Bengals fall the following season.

While the Bengals signed Ted Karras, Alex Cappa, and La’el Collins in 2022 as part of a volume-based strategy to improve their offensive line, Cincinnati made the bold move this summer. With a four-year, $64 million contract, Brown, who was the greatest pure left tackle available, is just the 10th most paid athlete at the position he plays. Given that the Bengals didn’t select a running back or lineman in the first round of the draft, Joe Mixon and Jonah Williams are likely to remain on the roster, making Smith the only significant offensive change. Unexpectedly, Cincinnati passed on a tight end this season as well, giving Smith a clear path to take Hurst’s spot as Joe Burrow’s top TE.
