The San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings are two of the most competitive teams in the NFC. On Monday night at U.S. Bank Stadium they will square off again, in what will likely be another high-stakes contest. The 49ers are coming off of an agonizing loss against the Browns while the Vikings won their last game against the Bears last week. Both teams have shown great offensive prowess so far this year.
This year, the 49ers came off to a tremendous start, going unbeaten in their first 5 matches. During that time, San Francisco defeated the Steelers 30-7, the Rams 30-23, the Giants 30-12, the Cardinals 35-16, and the Cowboys 42-10. They had an outstanding start to the year, but the close defeat to the Cleveland Browns put a stop to the flawless run. There were a variety of errors that led to the 49ers’ demise, but the loss of key players including Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey might raise questions for an otherwise successful offense.
On the Vikings’ side, the first 6 matches have been difficult. Minnesota opened with defeats to the Buccaneers (20-17), Eagles (34-28), and Chargers (28-24). The Vikings managed to defeat the Panthers 21-13 the following week, but they were unable to maintain their momentum as they fell to the Chiefs 27-20 in Week 5. The Vikings held the Chicago Bears at bay in a 19-13 road victory, preventing them from falling to the basement of the NFC North even without top receiver Justin Jefferson. A significant victory over a Super Bowl contender might put a stop to the trade rumors surrounding Kirk Cousins.
Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings has been fantastic this year. He has amassed more than 1,500 yards and 14 touchdowns while leading his team to a couple of wins at home this year – something their opponent, San Francisco 49ers should take note of when coming into this matchup.
