Philadelphia Eagles (3-1) and Miami Dolphins (5-1) will meet up Sunday evening at Lincoln Financial Field.
Last week, the Eagles saw their perfect start to the season come tumbling down after they dropped a 20-14 road game against New York Jets and gave up 285 total yards (4.9 per rush average) and two interceptions; but this week will provide them with an opportunity to rebound against one of the premier passing teams in the Miami Dolphins.
Jalen Hurts has been on a tear so far this season, throwing for nearly 300 yards in each of his first four games and tallying 11 touchdown passes without an interception – making the Philadelphia offense one of their strongest assets this season. And with Miami Dolphins pass defense being inconsistent this year, Hurts should have another big game against them on Sunday.
While the Dolphins have been strong defensively, their run defense has been an unexpected letdown. Over the last three weeks alone, this unit has allowed an astonishing 4.4 yards per rush play per opponent to accumulate 318 total yards rushing. This presents an enormous issue and makes the Eagles an ideal opponent on paper.
The Dolphins may not boast as potency in their running attack as Philadelphia does, but they still managed to score plenty this season. Over their last five games, Miami scored at least 31 points each time; thanks to players like Jaylen Waddle, Tyreek Hill and Raheem Mostert who make an impactful statement with each play on offense they will likely reach the red zone on multiple occasions this weekend.
The Eagles pass defense has been strong this season, yet susceptible to big plays at times – especially in the first quarter. Opponents scored on 46.2% of drives that started there. That should change on Sunday when they host a Dolphins team that has been among the league’s worst in terms of giving up big plays; 21 passes of 40+ yards have been surrendered during first-quarter play alone this season.
