Sunday’s NFL matchup in London pits the Tennessee Titans against the Baltimore Ravens. Following the Jacksonville Jaguars winning twice in London in consecutive weeks, these teams are scheduled to compete at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. At Wembley Stadium in 2018, the Titans’ last game in London, they fell against the Los Angeles Chargers 20-19. A year prior to that, the Jaguars defeated the Ravens 44-7.
Last week, both clubs suffered road losses. Ryan Tannehill completed 23 of 34 passes for 264 yards including an interception as the Tennessee Titans lost against the Indianapolis Colts 23–16. Derrick Henry gained just 43 rushing yards. In Baltimore’s 17-10 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Lamar Jackson got sacked on 4 occasions and threw an interception. The Ravens lost two games as a result of their own mistakes. The previous week’s dropped passes were the cause of Baltimore’s demise.
Simply by looking at the stats, it is clear that the Ravens should be far ahead in this game in terms of their defense. Baltimore is the only squad in the league that is yet to put up a rushing score, boasts a top-five scoring defense and top-three overall defense. They allow the lowest amount of yards per pass attempt in the league and are 2nd in sacks.
How much of an anomaly the Titans’ run defense’s performance this past weekend was remains the key question. For the first time in 21 contests, the Titans surrendered over 110 rushing yards against the Colts on Sunday as they carried for 193 yards. If there are flaws in the Titans’ plan that can be exploited, the Ravens will find them because they enjoy running the ball. However, if the Titans can adjust to their advantages and pressure the Ravens to pass the ball, this conflict might end up being very close.
