The AFC South title and a postseason berth are up for grabs for the Houston Texans (8-7) as they host the Tennessee Titans (5-10) at NRG Stadium on December 31. The two sides have to cope with quarterback problems.
The Texans have suffered defeats in 3 of their previous 5 games, including a 36-22 setback to the Cleveland Browns in their last game. After recovering from a calf injury, Nico Collins had 4 receptions for eighteen yards and a touchdown. QB duties were split between Case Keenum and Davis Mills, with the latter taking over after the veteran got 2 passes intercepted. Despite throwing 2 touchdowns in the fourth quarter, Mills was unable to finish the comeback. Due to a concussion, rookie star CJ Stroud was sidelined, leaving Keenum and Mills to play. Stroud might return for this encounter. In their loss, Houston allowed Joe Flacco to pass for 368 yards and 3 touchdowns while giving up 265 yards and a pair of scores to Amari Cooper.
After missing out on the playoffs, the Titans will now play according to their draft position. They suffered a close 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in their last game. Due to an ankle injury, rookie Will Levis did not start and was replaced by Ryan Tannehill. Tannehill finished with 152 yards on 18 of 26. With 18.3 team points per game, the Titans are 27th in the NFL and in the last spot in the AFC South division. Derrick Henry, a running back for Tennessee, gained 88 yards on 19 carries along with a touchdown. Chigoziem Okonkwo had 63 receiving yards during the game and obtained the initial score for the Titans on a 12-yard touchdown grab. The Titans will try to maintain their status to have a good spot for the upcoming draft.
