The Seahawks lost 30-13 at home to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1. The game was Seattle’s first in the NFL. But they got it together in Week 2, beating the Detroit Lions 37-31 in overtime on the road. On Monday night, despite a strong defensive effort, the Carolina Panthers were defeated 20-17 by the New Orleans Saints due to the team’s offensive woes.
The Panthers’ season has been defined by severe challenges, such as their inability to score more than once every game. Last week, the offense managed only 239 yards. Bryce Young, the Panthers’ rookie quarterback, has a dismal 35.5 QBR after two games. This is one of the lowest marks in the league, and the team needs significant improvement soon.
This season, Carolina’s running offense has been very effective, averaging 127 yards per game. Last week against the New Orleans Saints, Miles Sanders rushed for only 43 yards, but Young rushed for 34, including a 26-yard scramble on fourth down. Carolina needs to keep the running game consistent despite Young’s early passing problems.
Although the Seahawks lost to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1, they finally found their offensive groove in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions. Geno Smith completed 32 of 41 throws for 398 yards and two touchdowns, and he added 20 yards on the ground. The Carolina offense will struggle to keep up if Smith keeps playing this well.
DK Metcalf had six receptions for 75 yards and Tyler Lockett had eight receptions for 59 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning score in overtime, as the Seahawks’ receivers came alive last week. Noah Fant, who wasn’t targeted in the season opener, caught fire last week with four receptions for 56 yards. Against a Carolina secondary that has struggled, Seattle should look to rally behind their strong receiving core.
The Seahawks have a rushing attack that averages less than 90 yards a game, which is a cause for concern. Despite over twenty carries against the Lions, Kenneth Walker III gained only 43 yards. Seattle should work to enhance its running attack because Carolina has allowed more than 100 rushing yards per game so far this season.
