On Saturday, December 23rd, the Buffalo Bills (8-6) and the Los Angeles Chargers (5-9) will play a game. The Bills will be looking to build on their recent victory against the Cowboys, while the Chargers will be trying to recover from their defeat to the Raiders.
The Bills are hoping to achieve a fever pitch at the conclusion of the season to secure a postseason place, and they just came off a very impressive 31-10 victory against the Dallas Cowboys at home. This is their second consecutive victory. This season hasn’t been easy for them. They’ve struggled on both ends of the ball, which has kept them from rising to their typical level and, by now, securing a postseason berth. It’s still a really high ceiling squad, and recently, we’ve seen more of that. The fact that the Bills defeated the Chiefs at Arrowhead after thoroughly humiliating the Cowboys suggests that this team may be the best one that we’ve witnessed this entire season. That’s very terrible news for the Chargers.
Far from ideal, the Chargers’ season plummeted to an all-time low last Thursday against the Raiders, culminating in the firing of both their general manager and head coach, after a 63-21 humiliation. With Justin Herbert back there, it was challenging enough, but with quarterback Easton Slick beginning behind center, things have become so terrible this season that they had to tidy up the house before it was finished. They are in possession of a defensive-minded head coach in Giff Smith, the interim head coach. He started playing with the group in 2016. Given that it appeared the Chargers had already given up on Staley for a while prior, it’s difficult to ignore the fact that some teams experience a jump in performance when a coach is fired.
