Game Preview

In Week 14, the Houston Texans (7-5) take on the New York Jets (4-8) at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

During their current five-game losing streak, the Jets attack has become stale, especially in the passing play. Zach Wilson, the quarterback in his second year, has had a very difficult time; he has only six touchdowns and seven interceptions while recording 38 sacks. Even with few targets, top wide receiver Garrett Wilson proved to be the only bright light. Thanks in large part to rookie Breece Hall’s 569 yards from 4.6 yards per carry, the running attack has become more consistent. However, New York currently lacks big play capability. The New York Jets’ Zach Wilson has had an incredibly challenging season. In 10 games, Wilson completed 59.2% of his passes for 1,944 yards, indicating promise but also room for development. He also had 7 picks and an inferior passer rating of 73.8. Wilson was also sacked 38 times, which raises the possibility of problems with pocket awareness or even offensive line protection. Despite this, his longest throw of 68 yards demonstrates his arm talent, but consistency is still a problem.

Recently, Houston’s attack has shown excellence both via the air and on the ground. C.J. Stroud, a rookie quarterback, has demonstrated impressive stats, averaging close to 300 yards passing per match, 19 touchdowns, and more than eight yards per attempt. Top wide receiver Nico Collins, a second-year player who is averaging 16 yards per reception and five touchdowns, is enjoying a blossoming relationship with the quarterback on the field. Devin Singletary leads an effective rushing effort from the ground, averaging more than 4 yards per attempt. In just his first NFL season, C.J. Stroud has already emerged as the Texans’ franchise cornerstone. Houston had some early difficulties, but Stroud immediately showed exceptional poise and playmaking ability. His ball placement and throwing precision were immediately exceptional even for a freshman signal caller. Now that he has played almost the entire season, Stroud has significantly improved Houston’s offensive. He has a stellar 12-1 touchdown to interceptions ratio over his most recent five games, for an average of more than 300 passing yards per game with nine touchdowns in all.
