The Carolina Panthers (1-11) are the guests of the New Orleans Saints (5-7) at Caesars Superdome on December 10.
The Panthers are 0-7 on the road, 1-4 at home, and 0-0 at neutral sites thus far this season. In their most recent game, they were defeated 21–18 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The starting quarterback, Bryce Young, completed 15 of 31 attempts for 178 yards passing, zero touchdowns, and one interception while running back Chuba Hubbard led the squad with 104 yards and two touchdowns. Even though they were playing the inconsistent Bucs, Carolina’s defense produced another strong performance in their last game. Baker Mayfield was only able to complete 29 passes for 202 yards and a score thanks to the Panthers, who also forced an interception and sack. But on the ground, they gave up 128 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Carolina defense stumbled, allowing over 300 yards and 21 points, including 14 in the second half, which contributed to the defeat.
The Saints were defeated 33–28 by the Detroit Lions at home in their last game, but they did mount a strong fight back from a 21-0 deficit. The Saints quarterback, Derek Carr, was forced to leave his 3rd game of the year due to 3 injuries he sustained against the tenacious Lions. In addition to twitching his shoulder and back, Carr is currently in the concussion protocol for the 2nd time in New Orleans’ last 3 matches. The Lions defensive lineman Bruce Irvin struck him hard in the fourth quarter, which resulted in a roughing the passer penalty. That hit was the one that resulted in the most damage. With 226 throwing yards, 1 score, and 1 interception, he completed 17 of 22 passes. Leading the Saints in rushing yards (59 and 1 TD) was Taysom Hill and with five receptions for 119 receiving yards, Chris Olave topped all receivers.
