In the Premier League, Arsenal will want to get back on track when Brighton & Hove Albion visit the Emirates on Sunday.
Arsenal has been steadily improving this season; they are currently one point below the league’s leaders Liverpool with 36 points. They would have been in the lead if they hadn’t lost to Aston Villa 1-0 the previous weekend. With 12 points from their initial five games, they also sit atop their Champions League Group. McGinn’s goal in the 7th minute of Arsenal’s match against Aston Villa last weekend sent them down 1-0. They lost that match, which meant Liverpool took over the top position in the standings. The only teams with more goals than them are Man City and Aston Villa, their total is 33, same as that of Tottenham, Newcastle, and Brighton. With 15 goals conceded, Arsenal and Liverpool have the greatest defenses in the division. Their defensive framework is their strongest suit. Arsenal’s Champions League Group Stage quest came to an end on Tuesday in Eindhoven with a 1-1 draw against PSV.
Even if Brighton hasn’t quite lived up to last season’s highs, they are still in 8th place in the standings with 26 points from 16 games, one point below Man United in 6th place. With the added strain of the Europa League, where they are currently in second place with 10 points after five games, that is a more than reasonable return. Last Saturday, Brighton won their fourth straight league game after a frustrating 1-1 tie at home versus Burnley. Brighton takes on Marseille in the Europa League on Thursday and then plays at The Emirates on Sunday. Due to injuries, Kaoru Mitoma of Japan is vying for a starting position, but Tariq Lamptey, Pervis Estupinan, Danny Welbeck, Adam Webster, Solly March, Julio Enciso and Ansu Fati should all miss out.
