This December 2nd, Chelsea will return to Premier League action when they host Brighton at Stamford Bridge.
Despite their recent ups and downs, this Blues’ match coming up might be the turning point for the local team. Chelsea’s struggles to date have been mostly due to their inconsistent play, as the London club has only managed 4 victories in their first 13 Premier League games under new manager Mauricio Pochettino. Chelsea has yet to really start competing in this campaign. Following his dismissal in the St. James’ Park loss, right-back Reece James and left-back Marc Cucurella are both serving one-game bans; Ben Chilwell and Christopher Nkunku are still in the recovery room.
In contrast, Brighton want to build on their 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest. Brighton had previously generated an incredible start to their Premier League campaign. In their first 6 matches of the new season, the Seagulls had won five straight, including victories over Luton Town (4-1), Wolves (4-1), Newcastle United (3-1), Manchester United (3-1), and Bournemouth (3-1). In addition to producing victories, Brighton was also scoring goals. Ansu Fati and Tariq Lamptey are both considered doubtful for the journey to London due to injuries they sustained in the victory at City Ground. Mahmoud Dahoud and Lewis Dunk are both out for the game. In all probability, they are far from terrible, and their strong start to the season has given them some protection that, should they continue to play well, may propel them to the top of the standings. Brighton may score a lot of goals since they intend to continue playing in an offensive manner.
