Game Preview

On Monday night, Sassuolo will host Monza at the Mapei Stadium, and they’ll be playing for a spot in the Serie A playoffs. The Neroverdi had a slow start to the season, but recent wins over Juventus and Inter have given them renewed confidence.

With wins over Napoli, Inter, Juventus, and Atalanta in his first six games, Alessio Dionisi has reason to be pleased with his team’s point total. However, the loss to Frosinone amongst these “top-table” teams will have come as a shock.

After a successful transfer window and a thrilling finish to the previous season, fans of Monza were anticipating a breakout start to the new year. Raffaele Palladino’s squad is still in the middle of the standings, but they have had it much easier than their opponents for Monday night.

Based on their recent performance, the Neroverdi are still widely favored by bookies. Sassuolo appears to be a dangerous scoring threat at home, having won their last two matches at the Mapei Stadium.

Dionisi’s squad scored seven goals while playing wide against Verona and Juventus, more than offsetting the three goals they gave up defensively.

However, Monza’s poor away form anticipates a lackluster showdown at the Mapei. The Biancorossi have scored just once in three away games this season, however their most recent goal helped them earn a 1-1 draw against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.

A tight game on Monday is possible due to Raffaele Palladino’s focus on a tight, organized defense this season.

Alessio Dionsis is unlikely to make any major lineup adjustments, but he may implement rotations to ensure player health. It’s possible that Gregoire Defrel may start up top by himself, with new summer signing Samu Castillejo perhaps starting on the wing.

Raffaele Palladino is only missing Gianluca Caprari due to injury, thus he is not likely to make major changes to the starting lineup that played Bologna. Danilo D’Ambrosio might replace Armando Izzo in the starting lineup at defense.
