Game Preview

The next several months will be crucial for Juventus as they attempt to rebound on and off the field. Max Allegri’s squad finished last season in seventh place after the controversy surrounding the points deduction and the subsequent scandal caused them to finish outside of European play.

The club has spent the offseason trying to regroup, and their efforts paid off with a 3-0 victory over Udinese on the road to kick off the 2023–24 season. Allegri and his squad got off to a great start in their season-opening league match against Bologna at home.

A 2-0 home loss to Milan to open the season didn’t inspire much confidence for Bologna’s visitors, who haven’t won a league game away from Juventus since 2011. Their sole victory in the last few weeks came in the first round of the Coppa Italia, when they beat Cesena of Serie C.

Thiago Motta, coach of Bologna, may make changes to his starting lineup in response to last week’s defeat in Milan. Riccardo Orsolini and Oussama El Azzouzi may start in place of Musa Barrow and Adama Soumaoro, who remain out with injuries.

Only Milan and champions Napoli scored more goals at home than Juventus did last season, but the Bianconeri’s goal-filled performance at Udinese will give them confidence that they can carry on scoring goals against a Bologna side that is erratic in defense.

Juve should have little trouble picking up three points following their opening weekend, and Allegri will have a tough schedule upon his return from the international break in September.

The home team would have nine points from three games before leaving for international service next month if they were to win this game and the following game against Empoli the following weekend.

No new injury news has come to light, with Matteo Di Sciglio remaining sidelined and Moise Kean not likely to be risked by Allegri. He might not make any changes to his starting lineup after their victory last weekend, keeping Weston McKennie and Arkadiusz Milik on the bench.
