On Saturday, Milan will host Lazio at the San Siro looking to build on their recent success. Although Stefano Pioli still has a lot of work to do, the Rossoneri’s major summer revamp is beginning to bear fruit.
When compared to Lazio’s early season woes, the problems facing the home team look quite minor. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, a key player, left during the transfer window, and were replaced by Matteo Guendouzi, Nicolo Rovella, and Daichi Kamada.
Lazio have had trouble breaking down opponents because the new newcomers have not provided the same goalscoring danger as their predecessor, the Aquile. Also, the defense pairing of Alessio Romagnoli and Nicola Casale, which appeared so solid last year, has struggled to maintain a clean sheet so far this season.
Almost all of Lazio’s goals allowed through their first six matches this season have come in the first half. If the visitors do fall behind, they have more than enough firepower to make a comeback. Both Ciro Immobile and Luis Alberto have found the back of the net so far this season in Serie A play, with Immobile scoring once every two games versus Milan.
Saturday’s encounter at the San Siro could be exciting for onlookers of both teams’ attacks. There has been a lot of scoring in recent games between these two teams, with three goals scored per game on average over the last six meetings.
For Milan, Mike Maignan is still out, and now Rade Krunic has joined Ismael Bennacer and Pierre Kalulu on the injured list. One of Yacine Adli and Tommaso Pobega could start in the midfield three for the Rossoneri.
Despite a difficult midweek matchup against Torino, Maurizio Sarri is set to start with the same eleven players. Against Monza, Luca Pellegrini made his return and could start this weekend. Felipe Anderson and Matias Vecino are also vying for spots in the starting lineup.
