It’s no secret that Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini is unhappy with his team’s performance this year. La Dea have struggled recently, especially against the league’s weaker teams, and they’ll need to get back on track if they want to make another run at Europe.
Although the Bergamo club has lost some key players to free agency, it has also made some significant additions. While the timing of Juventus‘s arrival is less than ideal, it does provide Atalanta a chance to prove that they belong among the league’s elite this year.
With both teams struggling, this has the makings of a really entertaining matchup, with decent chances for fans of both teams to be celebrating some goals.
On the other hand, Max Allegri has still to figure out who his starting lineup should include. The replacements’ who were brought in for the game against hot-shooting Lecce performed admirably and have now put themselves in the running for a weekend starting spot.
With that victory on Tuesday, the Old Lady moved up to second position in the Serie A table, at least momentarily, and made light of the criticism Allegri and his players had received.
However, there is room for improvement as Juventus has not been the most thrilling team to watch this season. A more offensive approach might make for an exciting encounter in Bergamo, even if they don’t walk away with all three points.
After Wednesday’s game against Verona, Gian Piero Gasperini could decide to make some lineup adjustments. But he has a few key players out with injuries and may have to make some changes for Juventus’ visit.
After benching Federico Gatti against Lecce after his mistake against Sassuolo, Allegri may decide to start the defender here. Even if Arkadiusz Milik scored the game-winning goal, Duan Vlahovi could yet be called back into action.
