Josh Emmett (18-4) has a 9-4 record in the UFC and is vying for the featherweight title going into this match. He was submitted by Yair Rodriguez in that fight, and he was defeated by a unanimous decision in his most recent matchup with Ilia Topuria. He had been on a 5-fight streak of victories before that, and if he can defeat Mitchell, he still has title dreams. Josh Emmett has a reach of 70 inches and stands 5’6″.
Emmett doesn’t have the same fluidity as a striker, but he closes gaps quickly and has incredible strength when shooting. His record of knockdowns leads the featherweight category, and his strength will undoubtedly be crucial in this battle as Mitchell seeks to encircle Emmett. Emmett is an excellent wrestler as well, and Mitchell will have a difficult time taking him down.
Even though Bryce Mitchell acknowledged going into his bout with Ilia Topuria not feeling fully well, the performance nonetheless showed some weaknesses in his game against a championship contender like Topuria. Naturally, Bryce Mitchell suffered the same fate at the hands of Topuria when he lost to Dan Ige, but if Mitchell is willing to take this bout on short notice, he must be in good health.
Without a doubt, Bryce Mitchell will be the more skilled submission fighter in this matchup. But Mitchell has a history of struggling against much more formidable opponents, so it will be a close bout.
