Yan Analysis: Looking to end 3-fight losing run
His last fight ended in a loss against Merab Dvalishvili and now sits well outside of the top ten of his division. On Saturday at UFC 299 he will have an opportunity to find redemption when he takes on Song Yadong. Yan is an explosive striker who relies heavily on his hands and kicks. A skilled counter striker, he will often give up the first round in order to assess his opponent and take time before unleashing an offensive barrage. Unfortunately, however, Yan has struggled to find his stride of late; three consecutive losses by decision have come his way. Yan must return to the top of his division and faces an uphill task against Song, a former champion who knows exactly how to exploit any weaknesses in defense while finding openings in defenses that make stopping an attack difficult for youngster.
Yadong Analysis: Powerful punching striker
Song has been one of the rising talents since debuting in the UFC in 2017. While he has shown potential, there have been some setbacks along his journey. This fight against Yan will mark Song’s first encounter against an elite opponent and could provide valuable insight into where his game currently stands. Song is a hard-hitting striker with high level athleticism. He excels as both a counter striker and length striker; however, his strikes have often been somewhat wild; this means they will have to be precise if he hopes to counter one of Yan’s main strengths.
