Caleb Plant vs Anthony Dirrell: Preview & Picks 10/15/2022

Game Preview

Fight Preview

This October 15, two former champions, Anthony “The Dog” Dirrell and Caleb “Sweethands” Plant will face off at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

It was three years ago when then champion Anthony Dirrell was defending his title against challenger David Benavidez. It was a very good and close fight until the sixth round when Benavidez threw a left hook that opened a cut on Dirrell’s right eye. After that he became much more aggressive and three rounds later he got the loss by technical knockout and therefore the championship.

If Dirrell is able to win this bout, he could seek a rematch and try to avenge his loss to David Benavidez or campaign for a chance to share the ring with the great Canelo.

On the other hand, Plant has other plans for Dirrel. He would very much like to keep his word to send him into retirement. His words were “He will retire after this. He’s finished. I’m going to beat him in such a way that he won’t want to be part of this anymore”, all this in a virtual press conference.

Plant will have to take advantage of his physical gifts to put himself in a good position, he is athletic, slippery and has fast feet. He will surely try to set the pace from the start with his jab. Although Dirrel also likes to set the pace with his own jab to the body and then accompany it with punches over the shoulder.

Dirrell believes that to win he must be the aggressor. He also admits that he doesn’t like Caleb because he believes he is unkind and disrespectful. When Plant stated that Dirrell was not on his level, Dirrell said the following: “That’s his opinion. That’s what he thinks. When we get in there, it’s a whole different story. I think he’ll be on his bicycle as always. He only can fight when somebody is just standing there coming towards him or letting him do what he wants, but I’m not going to do that. I’m going to go in there and do what I need to do, be the dog.”
