Anthony Joshua has established himself as one of the premier heavyweight fighters and will seek to demonstrate this when he faces Otto Wallin this Saturday night. It will serve as a key test before any potential matchup with Deontay Wilder.
Joshua is an overwhelming favorite from the fans. Joshua tends to excel against opponents that use big punchers with front foot fighting styles like Wallin, where his larger punches often dominate center ring and force him off balance with their combinations. Wallin may be known for being an outstanding defensive fighter, but he can also be extremely dangerous when unleashing his arsenal. Therefore, it’s vital that AJ be aggressive and not let Wallin dictate the pace of the fight. Wallin is a formidable opponent, yet does not boast as much punching power as some of Joshua’s previous foes. This could lead to an extended and exhausting fight that tests Joshua’s stamina.
Joshua will make his debut under new trainer Ben Davison, who replaced Derrick James earlier this year. Some fans may be skeptical of Davison but it should be remembered that he successfully trained Tyson Fury to his devastating win against Wallin in 2021.
If AJ can find ways to improve his performance in the ring, it will be exciting to watch as he makes this bout an entertaining one that excites fans about a potential clash against Wilder. A loss would likely end any hopes for an instant rematch against Fury in 2024. Regardless of its outcome, we can expect an enormous crowd in Saudi Arabia this weekend for one of the biggest fights of 2023; an event boasting some of the greatest fighters on the card.
