Picks & Predictions: Martin vs Harutyunyan 7/15/2023

Game Preview

Fight Preview

Frank Martin will attempt to secure another victory in the WBC Lightweight Title Eliminator this weekend when he battles Artem Harutyunyan at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although Martin will enter as the clear favorite entering this fight, Harutyunyan may cause an upset late on.

Unbeaten Martin could become the next big thing in the lightweight division, and this fight with an unlikely opponent could be one step towards that goal. The maximum weight allowed for the battle, which is scheduled to part in the Lightweight class for a total of twelve rounds, is set at 135 pounds.

Frank Martin enters the arena with a perfect record of 17 victories, 0 defeats, 0 draws, and 12 knockout victories. Artem Harutyunyan will enter the ring with a spotless record of 12 victories and 0 losses, including 7 knockout victories.

Martin, with a 68-inch reach and smooth style, has quickly made an impactful statement as one of the premier southpaw boxers on the scene. After taking out John Edward

Lockette with ease in 2017, he’s since shown his talent with 12 victories to date – including 12 by way of knockout. While his last outing against Rivera may have been disorganized at times, this weekend should give Martin more preparation and hopefully give him the edge with speed and Ring IQ advantage over him.

Harutyunyan represented Germany at the Olympics before making his pro debut a year later. Since then, he’s gone 12-0 as a pro boxer, winning bronze at 2016 Summer Games and boasting similar measurements as Martin. But with one key distinction – being an orthodox fighter instead of having been involved in as many fights than his counterpart.

Currently 32 years old, this will be Harutyunyan’s biggest challenge yet since it will be his initial professional fight outside of Germany.
