Game Preview

Fight Preview

Elvis Rodriguez will take on Viktor Postol in an exciting showdown at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas’ Chelsea Ballroom on July 15. This fight could pave the way to future championship titles for both fighters.

Rodriguez has enjoyed an impressive professional career to date. Hailing from Dominican Republic, Rodriguez amassed a 14-1-1 record before suffering his first defeat to Kenneth Sims Jr in December 2021. Since then he has won three straight fights, including a bloody and exciting ten round decision over Joseph Adorno in February that will go down as one of the most entertaining fights of 2023.

After completing his professional debut in 2018, he has only competed in 67 bouts. Prior to that, he had a successful amateur career. He advanced to the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games final before being defeated by Andy Cruz, and he additionally lost to Cruz in the 2017 AIBA World Championships quarterfinals and the 2017 Pan American Championship Final.

Postol, in contrast, lost in his most recent fight versus Gary Antuanne Russell back in 2022. An Armenian-Russian, Postol is one of the most exciting fighters in all of boxing with an 87% knock out rate – one he hopes to add to when taking on Rodriguez next time around. He currently holds a 31-4 record, winning 12 by knockout.

Postol, a former WBC junior welterweight champion with a 31-4 record and 12 knockouts, is currently 39 years old. In a title unification fight against Terence Crawford in July 2016, he suffered his first loss by unanimous decision. In October 2015, Postol stopped Argentine Lucas Matthysse in the tenth round to win the vacant WBC title. Postol is known as a skilled boxer who packs his blows. He has fought mostly in Ukraine, and when he defeated Matthysse, he advanced significantly in standing.

This fight will headline a tripleheader that also features Nonito Donaire-Alexandro Santiago at welterweight; as well as Frank Martin-Artem Harutyunyan light heavyweight bout; Freudis Rojas-Diego Sanchez fight being featured as well as Freudis Rojas-Diego Sanchez fight on undercard.
