Fight Preview
David Benavidez and Demetrius Andrade will meet on November 25th for a super middleweight bout at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, and many boxing fans cannot wait for them to do battle.
Benavidez and Andrade both boast unblemished records, but what has made their fight such an intriguing event is their unique styles. While Andrade’s quick movements and evasive defense stand out among competitors in his division, Benavidez stands out with powerful punches and an extraordinary tactical intelligence which make him one of the sport’s finest fighters. Their diverging approaches may result in an entertaining fight that blends physicality with strategic precision.
Andrade’s style has often made opponents wary of sharing the ring with him, particularly after winning the WBO World Super Welter title with a split decision victory over Vanes Martirosyan in 2013.
Benavidez, who is ranked No. 1 in The Ring’s super middleweight rankings behind champ Canelo Alvarez, is a powerful, fast, and physically intimidating pressure fighter who is an attacking beast. He defeated Ronald Gavril to capture the WBC super middleweight title, making him the youngest fighter to do it.
Benavidez must remain patient against Andrade and utilize movement and a high volume of combinations to cut off the ring effectively, before unleashing powerful shots into late rounds when his power may overpower Andrade’s.
Benavidez holds an advantage of speed over Andrade; however, he must use it wisely so as to not overexert himself and become tired early in the fight. Benavidez must use his youth and athleticism to dictate the pace while making sure not to get caught by Andrade’s longer shots – otherwise an early stoppage is possible.
If Andrade can stay focused during Benavidez’s initial barrage, he may be able to use sharp counterpunches against him and frustrate the early assault from Benavidez. Otherwise, however, Andrade could find himself bogged down under Benavidez’s relentless pressure and spending more than one round in the ring with the fighter.
