Oscar Valdez vs Liam Wilson Fight Preview
Oscar Valdez and Liam Wilson will meet in the Desert Diamond Arena on March 29 in Glendale, Arizona, as a stop on their journey to compete for the super featherweight gold medal. Follow more articles like this to read the most in depth boxing analysis out there.
Oscar Valdez Analysis: Only lost twice
After going pro in 2012, Valdez (31-2) defeated Matias Rueda in 2016 to win the WBO featherweight championship. The Mexican superstar moved up to super featherweight after 6 defenses, where he would defeat Robson Conceicao to capture the WBC title. Since then, he has a 1-2 record and has lost to Shakur Stevenson in a title battle. Valdez most recently suffered his second defeat at the hands of Emmanual Navarrete, although putting forth a heroic effort. Valdez will now take against Australia’s Liam Wilson in an attempt to get back into the victory column and prove to super-featherweight that he still belongs at the top.
Liam Wilson Analysis: Big strong fighter
Wilson (13-2) became a professional in 2018. The Australian was defeated by Navarrete in a WBO title fight the previous year, but he has since rebounded with two victories in a row. In December of last year, he defeated Jackson Jon England by a narrow margin. Wilson, who is naturally huge, has also hinted at the potential of switching to lightweight. It will take a long time to let him down, and he won’t be intimidated by Valdez’s strength. Class and experience will be the differentiators in this duel. Despite his slight build, Valdez possesses the ability and punching variety to stop Wilson’s strikes. Liam Wilson will be competing for the 2nd time both out of Australia and, curiously, in the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale.
