Fight Preview
On November 18th, Franck Petitjean will defend his European Boxing Union (EBU) European super lightweight title against Britain’s hard-hitting undefeated prospect Adam Azim as part of a stellar line up at Boxxer Presents Wolves at the Door event.
In just his tenth professional bout, Azim receives a crack at the European title, but considering the impact he left in his brief stint in the paid ranks, it may be justified. Although Petitjean holds the title as the present European champion, Saturday’s battle may be considered a step down in class for Azim, who defeated Aram Faniian with ease in September. In his most recent bout, Petitjean defeated Samuel Molina by a close margin to claim the title; the Frenchman had suffered six defeats in his professional career.
Petitjean made his professional debut in 2010 and since has amassed 24 wins, three at EBU level, including three world title victories at super lightweight division level. Last year he moved up a weight class and won the EBU super lightweight championship against Aram Fanyan with a unanimous 10 round decision in June.
Petitjean will face one of his toughest tests yet in Azim, who remains undefeated in 9 professional fights and 6 stoppages. But the Brit remains highly talented as she can punch very hard on the inside while also taking opponents the distance when necessary.
Azim stands in stark contrast to Petitjean and holds both a three-inch height advantage and four-inch reach edge over his 35-year-old French opponent. Azim’s powerful punches have resulted in 6 knockout victories; two opponents managed to last the full 10-round distance against him.
While the current champion, Petitjean, came in just over the 10st limit, Azim weighed 9st 13lbs 5oz, during the weight-in.
This fight marks an important challenge for both fighters, and its outcome could make a big impact in Wolverhampton Civic Hall.
