Game Preview

Adrian Curiel vs Sivenathi Nontshinga Fight Preview

On February 16, Adrian Curiel and Sivenathi Nontshinga will reunite for another world title matchup at Oaxaca, Mexico. Below find the boxing analysis for this coming fight.

Adrian Curiel Analysis: Fighting to defend his title

Curiel (24-4-1, 5 KOs) caused quite the stir last November by taking away Nontshinga’s IBF World Light Flyweight Championship with one punch from Curiel – making for one of the biggest upsets of 2023. Now, we will find out whether Curiel can replicate that success again for another showdown when they meet for their rematch bout. Curiel is an aggressive pressure fighter who uses squared up positioning, hard hooks to the body and head, and counter jabs as weapons of pressure against his opponents. In their initial meeting he seemed to handle Nontshinga well until an unorthodox but pinpoint punch floored him. Unfortunately this style could wreak havoc again and so Curiel must ensure he adopts more disciplined attacks from early in his fights to maintain success.

Sivenathi Nontshinga Analysis: Looking to win in the rematch

Nontshinga is a talented, aggressive fighter who uses his footwork and quick hands to control the action. His footwork and quick hands allow him to use their footwork effectively in controlling any fight; they have shown this with their recent fight despite being hit early by Curiel’s right hand, fighting all the way until the very end. Nontshinga proved himself capable by lasting until victory was assured in that fight; showing he can go the distance. This fight’s winner should go on to challenge for a world title against another top contender. Curiel has shown during his early career that he can pursue world championship runs while Nontshinga stands a good chance at becoming champion at this weight class. At Thursday’s official weigh-in, both fighters appeared to be in good health.
