On Saturday, one of the biggest British boxing battles ever is taking place: WBA featherweight champion Leigh Wood takes on Josh Warrington for his title. Both fighters are highly-acclaimed contenders and this fight promises to be one a really big event on British lands. Warrington and Wood hail from nearby towns and are immensely popular within them, creating fierce ringside rivalry in their home regions.
Leigh Wood, 35 years old and from Eastleigh in Hampshire, successfully regained his WBA featherweight title last May with an emphatic victory against Mexican dangerman Mauricio Lara in their rematch bout. Wood was never threatened during this fight and now heads into this weekend’s fight with confidence and anticipation.
Josh Warrington of Leeds last lost relinquishing the IBF title to Luis Alberto Lopez last December and is eager to get another shot at world title glory. Wood represents such an opportunity for him.

Although very effective during the early rounds, his effectiveness tends to diminish towards the latter stages – particularly against tougher opponents.

Both fighters possess the potential to end a fight through late stoppage, so this bout proves to be a really close one between boxers who have a lot to prove.
