Joseph Parker and Deontay Wilder have been on an anticipated collision course since 2017, as both heavyweights have been touted to collide in an epic unification fight, with the winner set on total world dominance. With a mega card taking place this weekend in Saudi Arabia featuring Wilder as co-main event against Parker it promises to be an explosive encounter.
Both fighters will look to rebound from unfavorable results in 2018. Parker was defeated by Anthony Joshua in their unification bout and has been looking for revenge since. Meanwhile, Wilder lost to Tyson Fury but remains WBC champion and has expressed interest in facing Joshua next.
Parker is a three-fight winning run for a previous WBO heavyweight champion. This is one of the heavyweight fighters who fights the most, and his fourth bout of 2023. He has only been knocked out one time in his 23 knockout victories. This fight with Parker will allow both fighters to demonstrate that they remain worthy of world championship shots. Parker may be more technical, while Wilder’s power has seen him win 42 professional fights by knockout, surpassing any 205 lb fighter.
Parker recently won three consecutive fights, securing both IBF and WBO intercontinental gold against Joe Joyce in 2022, before scoring a first round knockout against Robert Helenius this October. Parker has demonstrated an intense desire to return to title contention, displaying impressive performances during this three-fight winning streak.
Wilder’s record speaks for itself and he will likely be considered the favorite heading into this fight. After taking time away to focus on Joshua, Wilder will return and look to build towards another fight between the two fighters next. Parker is determined to spoil this showdown though and has been training hard in advance of their big battle.
