Fight Preview

On August 26, at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa, Jared Anderson will meet Andriy Rudenko in a 10-round bout. This comes less than two months after Anderson defeated former world champion Charles Martin in Martin’s hometown of Toledo. The 23-year-old boxer won by unanimous decision against Martin in his third appearance of the year after finishing his first 14 battles in six rounds or less.

Anderson, a two-time winner of the U.S. National Championship, signed with Top Rank in 2019. In 2021, the 23-year-old power puncher won the NABF heavyweight title by defeating Vladimir Tereshkin. In April, “The Real Big Baby” dispatched George Arias, and in July, he won a unanimous decision over Charles Martin. His first bout to go the distance was against Martin. Anderson plans to become a serious contender at heavyweight in 2024 by keeping himself active.

In the last twenty years, Anderson has emerged as one of the most promising heavyweight boxing prospects in the United States. Anderson, currently 23 years old, has a perfect professional boxing record of 15-0, including 14 knockouts. During his amateur career, he was able to bring home two gold medals at the US National Championships in 2017 and 2018.

The 39-year-old Rudenko made his professional debut in 2006 and had a 24-fight winning streak interrupted by Lucas Browne in 2014. He has since lost against Hughie Fury, Alexander Povetkin, and Zhilei Zhang, all of whom are either current contenders or former champions. The Ukrainian is 3-1 in his previous four fights after losing to Zhang in 2019, including a win over Bojan Cestic in January.

From a technical standpoint, Anderson has a significant advantage in this bout because of his superior athleticism, which is always a major factor in heavyweight boxing. Rudenko is an excellent boxer who makes up for his lack of bulk by being defensively responsible and staying in most of his matches.

Anderson overestimated his speed and power and was knocked out by Martin late in their bout a little over a month ago. That should have been a wake-up call for the child, and he can’t afford to lose concentration for even a second in this match. Rudenko will take risks to hit the more significant blows to the head.
