Sivenathi Nontshinga will have a chance at history this Saturday when he defends his IBF Light Flyweight World Title against Adrian Curiel Dominguez at Casino de Monte Carlo Salle Medecin in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
This bout will feature 12 rounds in the 108-pound division and will serve as co-main event of Joe Cordina and Edward Vazquez’s fight for that same championship belt.
Nontshinga is an accomplished southpaw boxer who has made quick work of his opponents since turning professional in 2022. On September 3rd he won his inaugural world title by defeating Hector Flores Calixto for the vacant light flyweight title in Mexico, it was only his second fight outside his native South Africa.
Since then, Nontshinga has made quick work of his opponents with nine out of his 12 wins coming by way of knockout. Now one of the premier contenders at 108 pounds, Nontshinga looks forward to creating more history when he meets Curiel on November 4th.Now that he’s 24 years old, he’s prepared to go back on the road and defend his championship against another Mexican.
Curiel has been fighting professionally since 2016 and has proven himself as a highly capable fighter, suffering only one close decision loss to future IBF strawweight titlist Daniel Valladares in 2018. Since that fight ended however, Curiel has won 12 fights, losing three with seven straight victories under his belt.
Curiel has not experienced anyone as formidable as Nontshinga during his career and will present an especially challenging challenge in defending his title. Curiel is an aggressive boxer with speed who counters well.
Nontshinga should use his speed and quickness to outbox Curiel despite their height difference, while his superior movement should help him find openings in the ring.
Nontshinga will look to continue his impressive start against an unpredictable Curiel on November 4 at the Casino de Monte Carlo Salle Medecin in Monaco.
