Floyd Schofield doesn’t mind that he’s this weekend’s newfound object of attention at all.
On short notice, undefeated unbeaten lightweight prospect Floyd Schofield will headline Saturday night’s Golden Boy Promotions show at the AT&T Center in San Antonio for Golden Boy Promotions. In a ten round bout for the WBA International title he will face Haskell Rhodes (Kid Austin). This change replaces an event featuring Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Eimantas Stanionis for the WBA regular welterweight belt as the main event.
Ortiz was hospitalized this week after collapsing during a training session and is unable to compete against Stanionis for the WBA title. Golden Boy Promotions must reschedule his fight, with Oscar De La Hoya making Schofield-Rhodes main event.
Schofield hails from Grand Prairie, Texas. At 24 years old he is the top contender in his division and has won all his professional fights by knockout; additionally he currently holds the WBA Interim Champion crown having amassed 13 consecutive victories since making his professional debut back in 2021.
Floyd Schofield enters the boxing arena with a perfect record of 14 victories, 0 defeats, 0 draws, and 11 knockout victories. The 20-year-old knocked out Alberto Mercado in the 2nd round of his first complete 10-round fight in January, and he last fought in April after defeating Jesus Valentin Leon in 2 rounds.
Haskell Rhodes will enter the arena with a record of 28 victories, 4 defeats, and 1 draw, 13 of which came by way of knockout. Rhodes of Las Vegas, Nevada returned to action in March following a three-and-a-half year layoff and defeated Raymond Chacon via decision in Oklahoma City. Since making his debut back in 2011 (vs former world champion Jason Sosa and Sergey Lipinets), Rhodes has only lost once, with victories over both men.
The 35-year-old, though, has only engaged in combat once in almost 4 years. After being defeated by Jason Sosa in 7 rounds in 2019, he made a comeback in March and defeated Raymond Chacon by decision following 6 rounds.
