Analysis & Predictions: Darmstadt vs Gladbach 9/17/2023

Game Preview

It appears from the first three rounds of the German Bundesliga that Darmstadt is in for a hard and exhausting season. It’s too early to tell what each club hopes to accomplish in this competition, but Darmstadt lost all three games without putting up much of a fight, so it’s probable they’ll be fighting for survival next season. It was possible to predict what would happen even during the pre-game phase, when Darmstadt scored zero wins.

After a thrilling 4-4 first-round stalemate with Augsburg, Monchengladbach went on to lose to heavily favored opponents like Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich in two straight.

There’s little doubt that the team’s poor performance in the first half of the season will serve as further motivation for them to improve to championship form. When Monchengladbach played Werder Bremen during the break in European Championship qualifying games, the score ended 0-1.

As expected, the elite returnee is struggling to compete with the best German teams. Darmstadt is far more dangerous when playing at home because of their offensive style of play.

Since they have already suffered their initial setbacks, they have absolutely nothing to lose by going on the offensive and giving it their all. Borussia Monchengladbach is the superior team, but they will have a difficult time winning here. Darmstadt triumphed 2-1 in the last DFB Pokal matchup.

Until the end of September, not all of the players will be available for Darmstadt. The injured players are Cristoph Zimmerman, Mathias Honsak, and Hornby. Alexander Brunst’s shoulder ailment will force him to delay his return until early October. The earliest Fabian Nurnberger could play again would be around the middle of October.

Meanwhile, for M’gladbach, both Jan Ochlowsky and Joe Scally are questionable for Saturday’s game against Darmstadt. Manu Kone will be out for a month to a month and a half with a knee injury. Cristoph Kramer will return at the end of September due to the same injury.
