On the first day of the 2023–24 Bundesliga season, Hoffenheim and Freiburg will square off at the RheinNeckarArena. Hoffenheim spent most of last season in a relegation struggle before finishing in 12th place, while Freiburg came within a whisker of qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in club history but ultimately fell short.

However, given Freiburg’s rise in recent years, their upcoming opponents may find that tough, as Christian Streich’s squad has become one of the league’s most consistent squads. Breisgau-Brasilianer finished in fifth place, their highest Premier League finish in exactly ten years. However, they were once again three points short of qualifying for the Champions League.
Streich, who was elevated from assistant to manager in December 2011, has been in command throughout this entire time. Even if qualifying for the Europa League for the third time under his leadership is a significant achievement, next season he will have every intention of advancing to Europe’s top competition.
However, Florian Muller, who was brought in from Stuttgart to replace Mark Flekken, may need to get off to a fast start if he is to achieve this goal. Although Junior Adamu has been brought in to bolster Streich’s assault, the brilliant keeper has followed Kevin Schade to Premier League side Brentford.
