On Saturday, Borussia Monchengladbach will visit Bayern Munich looking for their first win of the Bundesliga season. Meanwhile, the visitors have a perfect record going into the international break, having won both of their matches thus far.
Gladbach are starting a new chapter with Gerardo Seoane as their head coach after losing Daniel Farke to Leeds United in the offseason. Seoane was previously fired from Bayer Leverkusen in October of last year.
Yet the 44-year-old came to Germany with a huge reputation, having won three consecutive titles with Young Boys in his native Switzerland and then leading Leverkusen to their best placing in six years by having them finish third in his first season at the helm.
Seoane will like to see his team tighten up defensively after a 4-4 draw away to Augsburg on opening matchday, but it may have to wait until after they face the defending champions on Saturday night. Die Fohlen are now undefeated in their previous five meetings against the German heavyweights Bayern Munich, and have grabbed 35 points from them since the 2011/12 season.
Indeed, Gladbach have firmly established themselves as Bayern’s Angstgegner (bogey team), given their remarkably great record against them throughout history, so there will be plenty of dread when the reigning champions travel to Monchengladbach this weekend.
However, Thomas Tuchel’s squad has looked in good form during their opening triumphs, sweeping Werder Bremen and Augsburg, respectively, by scores of 4-0 and 3-1 at the Allianz Arena.
But if he fails to get the high-quality holding midfielder he has been demanding since the transfer season opened, Tuchel will not be taking anything for granted just yet. FC Hollywood has more than enough star power to win their 12th consecutive Bundesliga championship, and if they can break their poor run of play this Saturday at Borussia-Park against their opponents, they will be that much closer to clinching a record 12th straight Bundesliga crown.
