Game Preview

This Saturday at the Mendizorrotza Stadium, Alaves and Granada will face off in the start of Round 14 of La Liga. This season, Paco Lopez’s team has yet to experience a league away win; they will be hoping to break this dismal streak this coming weekend.

Before the international break, Granada and Getafe tied 1-1. Borja Mayoral gave the capital team the lead in the second minute, but Gonzalo Villar tied the score late in the initial half. With just one victory in 13 games played and 7 points overall, the Andalusian team has struggled in the 2023–24 season, sitting in 19th place in the standings. By winning the Segunda Division previous season and only missing one season from the top flight, Granada also qualified for promotion returning to this level. This season, Paco Lopez’s team has only managed one point while playing in the league. They have also had defensive struggles, giving up 30 goals in 13 games, which represents the second lowest defensive record within the league behind Almeria. Raul Torrente, Jesus Vallejo, Miguel Angel Rubio, and Raul Fernandez are all still out due to injury, while Bryan Zaragoza has been given a match-day ban.

Deportivo Alaves must be extremely happy with the way they played versus Barcelona the previous time out. Robert Lewandowski’s double late during the game helped the home team come back from a startling 1-0 deficit thanks to a goal from Samu Omorodion. Prior to facing the champions, Alaves had prevailed in a pair of straight matches, defeating Deportivo Murcia 10-0 within the Copa del Rey and Almeria 1-0 during their opening league match of November. With 12 points from their 13 league matches this season, with 3 wins, 3 draws, and 7 losses, Luis Garcia’s team sits in 15th place in the standings going into the upcoming slate of contests. Carlos Benavidez is a serious doubt for this game, and Abdel Abqar, Aleksandar Sedlar, and Giuliano Simeone remain out due to injuries.
