The teams of Girona and Las Palmas will face one another in a competitive match at Estadio Municipal de Montilivi as the first game of Sunday’s schedule. The Catalan team intends to capitalize on their consecutive victories against Getafe and Sevilla, establishing themselves as strong contenders for a triumph in this upcoming match.
In their first season back in La Liga after being relegated in 2022, Girona performed admirably, placing solidly in mid-table and coming within a point of a top-seven finish. Pimienta’s background as a youth coach for Barcelona shone through as the team, nicknamed “the Brazilians of Spanish football,” earned automatic promotion.
However, Las Palmas have had a rough start to the season, playing poorly and scoring few goals. After grabbing the lead on the opening day of the season thanks to a penalty from Jonathan Viera, they played to a 1-1 draw with Real Mallorca before losing, 1-0, to Valencia thanks to another penalty.
They played to a scoreless draw against Real Sociedad at home this weekend, extending their goalless streak to three consecutive games. Of their three goals this season, two have come from the penalty spot.
Although Michel has been dealing with multiple ailments, Girona is expected to have a similar lineup this weekend. Meanwhile, Garcia Pimienta is missing many starters due to injury, including Marvin Park, Daley Sinkgraven, and Alberto Moleiro.
