The Mariners just finished a series against the Oakland Athletics in which they won two of three games. They have won 13 of their last 15 games, which is a remarkable streak. The Mariners are now 76-57 and in first place in the American League West. They also have the lowest team ERA of any MLB team right now. The Mariners have been successful at suppressing offensive efforts by their opponents.
They’re going with Logan Gilbert on the mound today. Importantly, he has a 12-5 record with a 3.66 earned run average. In his previous start, Gilbert went seven innings, giving one earned run on two hits and seven strikeouts. And in five of his last six outings, he’s gotten off to a strong start.
The Mariners have a slight edge in the series, leading 12-6. And last year, the Mariners swept the series in the Queens. The Mariners have won six of nine in Queens. Now they’re heading into Citi Field for another matchup with the Mets, hoping to regain their previous level of performance.
The Texas Rangers swept the Mets, losing two of three. In their last 10 games, they have a dismal 3-7 record. With a current record of 61-73, the Mets are dead last in the National League East and are already planning for next year.
Kadai Senga enters the matchup with a record of 10-7 and an earned run average of 3.17. During a recent game, he lasted 6 2/3 innings, allowing just two runs on four hits and striking out 10. But the Angels beat the Mets, and he had little chance of winning that game. Four of Senga’s past five starts have been quality ones, while five of his last six have been above average.
The Mets are done playing this year. Additionally, they are currently sitting at the very bottom of the standings and can’t wait for the season to be over. That said, some of the Mets’ weapons are still effective against pitchers. As a result, they may cause some harm.
