Thursday sees Game 2 of the American League Championship Series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. On Wednesday evening, in Game 3, the Houston Astros defeated the Texas Rangers to earn the opening victory in the current series. In the best-of-7 series, the Rangers continue to maintain a 2-1 advantage, which in the history of MLB has culminated in a series victory more than 70% of the time. The Rangers are going to attempt to put themselves in a position to capture the division title at home as the Astros attempt to tie the series up.
In game 3, the Houston Astros battled back into the series thanks to another outstanding playoff performance from Cristian Javier and crucial hits from their stars to secure the victory. Javier gave the Astros a winning performance in October by pitching 5.2 innings while allowing only 3 hits. Through the initial 4 innings, Javier held the Rangers without a hit, but his playoff scoreless streak was broken by a single then a homer during the 6th inning.
In Game 4 the Astros will go to, right hander, Jose Urquidy in an effort to tie the series at two matches each. In 16 appearances, involving 10 starts, Urquidy went 2-3 with an ERA above 5 during the course of the regular season.
On Wednesday evening, the Rangers’ winning streak was snapped when they were defeated at home by the Astros. In his initial appearance in more than a month, starter Max Scherzer resurfaced from injury and went 4 innings while giving up 5 runs on 5 hits. Nathaniel Lowe and Josh Jung produced practically all of the offense for the Rangers. Lowe singled two times and scored on both occasions when Jung homered.
The pitcher for Texas in this matchup seems to be Heaney. Throughout the course of the regular season, Heaney had 34 appearances, involving 28 starts, and winning 10 games.
