As the NLCS moves to the west for the third game on Thursday night, the Philadelphia Phillies hope to put the squeeze on the Arizona Diamondbacks after two convincing victories at Citizens Bank Park earlier in the week. If successful, they will be on the verge of securing a second consecutive World Series berth.
Until Philadelphia’s offense opened the game up in the 6th and 7th innings of Game 2, the Phillies and Diamondbacks fought a close game. To avoid falling down 3-0 in the series and facing elimination, the D-backs must push Game 2 out of their thoughts. Ranger Suarez will take the mound for the Phillies. The Arizona Diamondbacks are hopeful that Brandon Pfaadt can help them tie the series.
Arizona has played just one playoff home match. They won the third match of the NLDS against the Dodgers at home after being defeated 4-2 while playing on the road in Milwaukee during the wild card round. This campaign, the team’s record at home was 43-38. In this series, Arizona hasn’t been capable of producing offense. In games 1 and 2, they only mustered 4 base hits. This attack will need to be led by Corbin Carroll. The 23-year-old phenom has only 1 hit and no RBIs in the NLCS despite dominating the Brewers and Dodgers.
In their two away playoff matches so far, the Phillies have defeated the Braves 3-0 as well as losing 5-4. In a June road set in Arizona, they took 3 of 4 matches and scored an impressive 32 runs in each of the 4 matches. The pitching of the Phillies has been outstanding, giving up 3 runs or less in 7 of their 8 postseason victories. The Phillies keep making deep runs. They hit 3 homers in Game 1 and 3 more in Game 2’s resounding victory. With 5 home runs and 6 RBIs in his final 5 postseason contests, Nick Castellanos continues to be amazing.
