On Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers will travel to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks in the first of a quick two-game series. On Sunday, the Dodgers secured at least a split of the series with an 8-2 victory in Game 3. On Sunday afternoon, Arizona lost 5-3 in a walk-off loss to Minnesota, completing a three-game sweep for the Twins. The Diamondbacks have a 5-3 advantage in the season series, with the most recent series taking place on April 6-9.
In this game, Julio Urias will make his 17th start of the season for the Dodgers. He has pitched 82.1 innings this year, allowing 16 home runs and posting a 4.69 ERA with a 1.181 WHIP, 20 walks, and 82 strikeouts. On Thursday at home against the Athletics, Urias picked up the victory.
Arizona has been in a freefall since the All-Star break, and after losing to the Twins on the road for the sixth straight time on Sunday, they are now 5-17 since the break. The Diamondbacks are sitting in third place in the NL West, 57-56, 8.5 games back of the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers.
For the Diamondbacks, Brandon Pfaadt will take the mound for the tenth time this season. He has allowed 14 home runs in 44.1 innings, has a 7.11 ERA, a 1.444 WHIP, 12 walks, and 37 strikeouts. Pfaadt’s previous start was a heartbreaking loss, occurring on the road Thursday against the Giants.
Since the All-Star break, Arizona has completely unraveled, falling to third in the NL West and out of a wild card place heading into Monday’s action. Pfaadt has yet to record a victory at the major league level, and the acquisition of Sewald to strengthen the bullpen has not paid off. Unfortunately for them, the Diamondbacks will have a terrible time stopping the continuous offensive of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
