Game Preview

The startling seven-game losing streak that began right after Los Angeles opted to buy at the deadline effectively killed any aspirations of a potential Wild Card berth. Lucas Giolito, who was acquired at the last minute, will make his third start for the Halos on Tuesday after allowing 12 earned runs in his first two.
The right-hander, who is 29 years old, has a 6-8 record, 4.36 earned run average, and 1.28 WHIP this year. Giolito has struggled mightily since joining the Angels from the Chicago White Sox, allowing 12 earned runs on 14 hits in just nine innings of work in two starts. On Wednesday, the Atlanta Braves beat the Los Angeles Angels 12-5. Lucas took the loss after allowing nine earned runs in just 3.2 innings.
The Los Angeles Angels‘ opening day loss against the San Francisco Giants, by a score of 8-3, brought their current losing skid to seven games. The loss dropped the Halos’ record to 56-58, seven games out of the American League’s second-to-last wild-card place.
The Angels’ situation is dire, to be sure, but, in all honesty, Lucas Giolito can do no worse than he did on Wednesday. Giolito has a good chance to get back on track in this matchup against the failing Giants lineup since the Atlanta Braves are the most dangerous offensive team in baseball.

But if we look at the other side, the Giants’ offense is severely lacking. San Francisco has been cutting a dismal record in the previous few weeks, with only 18 doubles, nine home runs, and a .214/.289/.332 batting line in 388 at-bats.
The Giants’ offense has struggled over the past month without several key players. Tonight’s game against Giolito will be the first in which they have played without Wilmer Flores, Mike Yastrzemski, and Mitch Haniger.
