On Thursday night, the Colorado Rockies and the Los Angeles Dodgers will play the first game of a four-game weekend series in Los Angeles. The Rockies are currently in last place in the NL West Division after trading away several regulars at the trading deadline. The Dodgers are now leading the National League West and appear to be headed back to the postseason.
At the trade deadline, the Rockies finalized their rebuild by sending veteran first baseman CJ Cron and outfielder Randal Grichuck to the Angels in exchange for young players. After beginning the week with a win over Milwaukee, who leads the NL Central Division, they will travel to Los Angeles. The Rockies have won one game and lost one so far in this series. Tuesday’s 7-3 victory in extra innings was part of a split.
In Thursday’s series opener against the Dodgers, Ty Blach will get the ball. The lefty has started three games in a row after making his first seven appearances in relief. So far this season, he has made ten appearances and is winless. Blach’s 4.85 ERA is the result of 37 hits allowed in 26 innings of work.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are gearing up for the playoffs like they do every year, hoping to win their second World Series. As the season nears its conclusion, they are seeing the return to health of several key players while also benefiting from the trade deadline additions to their rotation and bullpen. After playing the Diamondbacks in Arizona for just two games, LA now enters this series.
Although it has not been confirmed by the Dodgers, multiple Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw is expected to make his comeback to the mound on Thursday. It seems like Kershaw is finally well enough to return to the rotation after being sidelined since June 27 with a strained shoulder. Kershaw is having yet another outstanding year in 2023.
